Report: Turco Made Bet During ‘Hawks Game

By Brad Stewart on April 6, 2011 at 11:57 am in Blackhawks

Marty Turco has been accused of placing a bet with a fan during Tuesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.

According to the ESPN Chicago report, there is a Twitter photo of Turco accepting a $5 bill from a fan during the game.

The news broke on a Montreal Radio station where a Canadiens fan called in to report the incident.

“I bet him after the Canadiens scored that Chicago wouldn’t score again,” the caller said, according to ESPN Chicago.

Patrick Kane tied the game minutes later at which point money exchanged hands.

An NHL spokeswoman declined comment, but Turco confirmed that the bet took place saying that he had given the money back to the fan.

This event is the culmination of a disappointing season for Turco and likely would not have taken place if he had been playing up to par. Though his frustration is understandable, with cameras everywhere, Turco’s ignorance is not.

His actions are even more disheartening when considering that the ‘Hawks are currently fighting for their playoff lives (with Dallas, the team he came from, nonetheless).

Add one more issue to the Chicago sports world on a day that has included injuries for the Cubs and Sox.
