Carmelo Anthony Talks Bulls, Free Agency, and Michael Jordan

The trade winds that swirl around Carmelo Anthony have touched down in Chicago. With the Nuggets in town to play the Bulls on Monday night, the Chicago media got some face time with the soon-to-be free agent.
A very special thank you to Tribune reporter K.C. Johnson for providing the highlights from Monday’s press conference.
Question: Have you let your mind wander about what it would be like to play in Chicago?
CA: Maybe if I was a free agent, I would let my mind wander. But I can’t do that right now. I have to focus on being a Nugget and playing Nuggets basketball. It wouldn’t be right if I let my mind wander.
Question: Has it been hard staying focused with everything said about you?
CA: I haven’t read anything bad so far, so that’s a good thing. Once I’m inside these walls, it’s all about basketball. That’s what I do best.
Question: Is there an aura about Chicago basketball because of Michael Jordan?
CA: Of course what MJ brought to the city, just the city itself being a big city and the historic value of basketball, everyone know what Chicago is like.
Question: Where do you stand on the business aspect of your decision?
CA: I’m not even thinking about business right now, man. I’m all about basketball at this very moment.
Question: Is there a scenario if Denver continues to play well in which you can see yourself staying with this organization?
CA: Sure. I mean, why not? I don’t see why not.
Question: When the rumors started, fans here seemed to want you. What does that do for your ego?
CA: I’m not a big egotistical type of guy. But it’s always good to know people want you and would love for you to represent their city.
Question: How pleased are you that your team has played well with all the injuries and distractions surrounding you?
CA: It’s easy for us. Once I came in on media day and sat the team down and told them no matter what’s being said, we’re here to play basketball. I think everybody locked in after that moment.
Question: Where does Chicago rank for you in NBA cities?
CA: Of course it’s one of the top. Want to know a number? You know, top three.
Question: How do you think you’ll be received by the fans?
CA: I don’t know. I am on the opposing team so I’m pretty sure they won’t cheer for me too much. I’m not looking forward to that.
Question: What about the Bulls’ style of play?
CA: I don’t want to say this in the wrong way, but anybody would love to play with a guy like Derrick Rose, a young point guard and star who gets the ball up and down the court and has improved his game every year. They have a young big man in Noah. They got Boozer, who’s hurt right now. They got a good team.
